Ben is using data collected by the International LOFAR (LOw Frequency ARray) telescope to investigate ionospheric dynamics on small- to medium-scales. While it is primarily used for radio astronomy observations, the ionospheric plasma distorts the radio signal as it passes through, and these signal variations can be used to infer the presence of ionospheric disturbances along the line of sight. This work involves a mixture of data analysis and radio propagation modelling to understand the ionospheric structures responsible.

BSc in Physics, Imperial College London, 2020

MSc in Physics, Imperial College London, 2021

Ben completed his BSc and MSc in Physics at Imperial College London before coming to the University of Birmingham for his PhD. During his MSc he worked on projects in various aspects of space physics, including planetary magnetospheres and solar wind monitoring.
